Twins affiliate hires Brunansky as hitting coach

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP)—Bruno is on his way up in the Minnesota Twins
organization.

The Twins’ Triple-A affiliate in Rochester has hired Tom Brunansky to serve
as the team’s hitting coach next season. He was a fan favorite during his six
years with the Twins, when he hit 162 homers, drove in 463 runs and helped the
team to a World Series title in 1987.

The ill-fated trade that sent Brunansky to St. Louis in 1988 for Cardinals
second baseman Tommy Herr remains a sore spot for fans of the team.

Brunansky spent last season as the hitting coach for Double-A New Britain.
He will replace Floyd Rayford with the Red Wings. Rayford and manager Tom Nieto
were fired at the end of the season.

That’s all for today.
