Shooter Now: Minnesota Twins’ Bill Smith seeks… |
Major League Baseball’s trading deadline is 3 p.m. Minnesota time Sunday. The Twins are six games out of first place. Twins general manager Bill Smith would like to add experience to his bullpen. But, he said this morning, “There are about 20 clubs looking for bullpen help. “We’re in contention; we’re right where we want to be. We dug ourselves a big hole in the first two months of the season, we climbed out quite a ways in the middle two months of the season, and now we’re heading into the final two months of the season and we’ve got a lot of work to do.” Smith won’t say whether he’s close to making a trade. But he said other clubs are asking about a lot of the Twins’ players. “There are a lot of calls, general questions,” he said. “We’ll see what happens. But after Sunday, it doesn’t all stop. A lot of waiver deals will take place through the months of August and September, and we’ll be ready for all that.” Smith said he’ll stay busy. “You want to be busy this week,” he said. Royals score 10 runs again in routing Twins |
Make what you want out of it, but the Royals are ending the season with a bang. Their 10-1 victory Tuesday over the Minnesota Twins gave them successive games of scoring 10 or more runs for the first time in more than four years.
